Attorney General Blumenthal Speaks Out! Now hear this. . .
Blumenthal describes the “widespread” conflicts of interests of the IDSA guidelines panel and notes that the IDSA did not even run a meaningful screening process for conflicts of that panel. He emphasizes that unfettered conflicts can allow guidelines processes to be tainted by industry interests, like insurance and pharmaceutical companies, that are interested in maximizing profits and by the self interests of panelists and states that ‘[u]sing such tactics to skew guidelines can have potentially devastating impacts on patients, because insurers use them to determine what treatments they will fund”.The interest of the Attorney General’s office has never been to call the science, but to ensure that physicians can administer the treatments and drugs they believe necessary for their patients.
